You remember that bet from the last post?

Well uh, I let it get a bit out of hand. Needless to say, I find myself in an interesting position: I’m going to be using KDE until at least the release of Feisty Fawn in April.

I think it’ll be rather interesting to see how this pans out.

After determining that I’d be using KDE for a while to come, I figured I’d use a fresh install. Sadly the Herd3 discs refused to boot, so a couple coasters later, I just went with the old fashioned route of install kubuntu-desktop.

After a little piddling I do have an acceptable setup, by my standards. Just a few things noteworthy:

  • I’m using Opera and Dolphin instead of Konqueror in the interest of saving on resources and having lightweight applications that do what I need them to well.
  • While Amarok isn’t my favorite music application ever, it’s the best QT-based one, in my opinion, so it gets used. It also supports my Creative Zen V, so that’s always pleasant.
  • Konversation is much easier to use but less dynamic than XChat, in my experience. Then again, I’ve never liked Python and I’m partial to my Perl scripts in XChat. I’m an odd one, I know.

Without further adieu, so some screenshots!
