How to Get the Latest Thunderbird

While Thunderbird 2.0b2 isn’t exactly the newest thing out and about, it certainly isn’t in the Ubuntu repositories.

Getting a little annoyed at Evolution lately, I decided to swap back to Thunderbird.

During this process, I decided to lend a helping hand to anyone looking to do the same – or even just update their Thunderbird installation.

Install Thunderbird 2.0 b2

1. Download this script to your Desktop.

2. Open a terminal, and run the following:

$ cd ~/Desktop/
$ chmod +x install_thunderbird.sh
$ ./install_thunderbird.sh

3. Enjoy!

The script downloads the latest version of Thunderbird, installs it to /opt, and creates a menu entry. It also can uninstall this installation of Thunderbird.
