Compiz 0.5 on Feisty

I typed a lightning quick guide for Compiz 0.5 and Ubuntu Feisty on the Ubuntu Forums.

Probably will need some touch-ups, but it’s a good start. Should work for most.

Many thanks go to RAOF for making and hosting the packages! 😀

Hello, I run feisty with beryl and the deffault compiz.
I started using compiz on breeay i believe and certainly on dapper drake.
I admint that compiz feels somewhat smoother and would like to give it a try on feisty, however if that “lightning quick” guide is any indication as the the future of beryl, i will quit linux and go back to windows,.
That is the most rediculous guide I have seen. If it isn’t going to be a an apt-get application it isn’t worth the code.
Compiz has not changed. It is has always been a pain in the ass to install and apparently stll is.
Nope, unless it is as easy as beryl to install it is not a valid application for ubuntu let alone any other linux distribution.
I am not a detractor of the soon to be merge but if it ends up ANYTHING like compiz install it is a waiste of time and i seriously will go back to windows.

I’m sorry you feel that way.

Some users (actually, a lot) don’t feel that way.

Furthermore, those packages, as noted in the big, bold text at the top are preliminary and still require some fixing. Once they are fixed, a good portion of that guide gets simplified to the point it is nothing more than a simple “apt-get”.

Compiz has not changed. It is has always been a pain in the ass to install and apparently stll is.

Compiz is not responsible for binary packages: the packagers are. The difference is, the Beryl team decided that they felt they were responsible for packaging Beryl rather than the distribution. Please, don’t confuse this.

Nope, unless it is as easy as beryl to install it is not a valid application for ubuntu let alone any other linux distribution.

In Feisty, Compiz is installed by default. Users have to click two buttons to enable it. How much easier does it get without enabling it by default?

I am not a detractor of the soon to be merge but if it ends up ANYTHING like compiz install it is a waiste of time and i seriously will go back to windows.

If you only use Linux for a composite window manager… well I’m not going to complete my thought there. It’s not worth it.
